You can also obtain different kinds of organic fabrics by the metre. Most of the clothing, accessories and fabrics are made of hemp, sometimes in combination with other natural and organically obtained materials such as cotton and flax.

The clothing of Jas is produced under fair and social righteous conditions or in other words, Fair Trade. Fair Trade is a partnership between producers, wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
Together they work on the removal of deprivations of producers in development countries in order to enlarge their access to the world market and to support the development process.
The circumstances for the people in those countries are often disgraceful and based on exploiting.
Fair Trade tries however to develop the possibilities for disadvantaged, small producers to improve their work and living conditions.
The purpose is improving social equality, protection of the environment and economical stability.
Partners in Fair Trade have a number of principles such as paying a fair price, openness and transparency of the market, involvement of the local population when decisions are being made, protection of human rights, protection of the environment, improvement of long lasting development, putting information and education at peoples disposal, etc.
The articles in the assortment will be purchased via the principles of Fair Trade as much as possible.

The clothing, accessories and fabrics in the shop of JAS are made of natural, organic materials.
In the production from plant to fibre to fabric to clothing no chemicals are being used.
This means no chemical manure, no pesticides, no bleaching with chloride, no adding of heavy metals, softeners and fire delaying means, etc.
Moreover, no synthetic fabrics are being added and/or used like nylon or polyether.

The basic material of the articles in the shop of JAS is hemp.
Hemp is being chosen due to the excellent qualities such as the durability of the clothing and the breathing qualities. In human history hemp has always been used for rope, sail, clothing, isolation, paper, fuel, etc.
Hemp is the basic resource for canvas.
In the thirties of this century the first synthetic fabrics came such as nylon and all possibilities are being used to let hemp disappear from the world view.
The oldest proof for the use of hemp comes from China and dates from circa 4000 BC. Hemp is a nettle plant, or in other words weed and family of the stinging nettle.
The hempplant can grow in the northern as well in the southern hemisphere under all weather circumstances without using chemicals, such as chemical manure, pesticides and herbicides.
Hemp is the only plant in the world of which is known that the plant improves the quality of the soil.

Contrary to hemp is the way of growing cotton a very destructive way.
Cotton uses 2 to 3% of the surface for agriculture world wide, but is responsible for using at least 20% of all the agricultural chemicals used world wide. After the harvesting of cotton, it is being bleached with chloride, dyed with heavy metals, softened with softeners, fire delaying means are added, etc.
    A 100% cotton T-shirt consists of ca.
two third of cotton and for one third of chemical additives.
Still it is called 100% cotton.
    Really fair!

In the clothing of Jas dye-stuff is being used as environmental friendly as possible.
That means that the dye is based on plant materials, no heavy metals are being used and no chloride is being used for bleaching.
The dyeing is not 100% organic because of the maintenance of the colour.
With 100% organic dye-stuff the maintenance of the colour cannot be guaranteed.

By using organic materials the clothing of JAS has some specific qualities: Organic clothing, especially hemp, is breathing and lets moisture through.
These breathing qualities see to it that your own body regulates your temperature.
In conventional clothing there are a lot of chemicals, which gives the feeling as if you are wearing a “plastic bag”.
This has an effect on your body temperature in all weathers. Hemp is very longwearing. Hemp is not only moisture conductive, but has also a large absorptive capacity. Hemp gives a good protection against UV-radiation. Hemp becomes softer the more you use or wear it.

You are ever so welcome in the shop of JAS to personally experience the qualities of hemp and other organic materials, which are made with respect for people and environment.
